National Library of Armenia held a meeting with the President of the Armenian community of Riga (Latvia) Alexander Geronyan, publisher and founder of the newspaper of Latvian Armenians “Ararat” as well as the magazine of Baltic Armenians “Krunk”. Geronyan gave a public lecture on the topic “Armenia in Modern Literary Publications in Latvia.” The lecturer presented books he published in Latvia, and at the same time spoke about the magazines “Ararat” and “Krunk”, where, among other things, his own materials and translations were published.
In particular, in “Ararat”, referring to publications of various international media, Geronyan presented reasons for the war unleashed by Azerbaijan in 2020, its “sponsors”, spoke about the participation of Turkish militants in the war and about the protests that took place in Yerevan. In her speech, the director of the National Library of Armenia Anna Chulyan highly appreciated the important work done by Alexander Geronyan in the Baltic region. She noted that books and issues of periodicals on Armenian studies donated by Geronyan will replenish the collection of the “Armenica” library, and in the near future, its digital versions will be available in the electronic database.
The founder of the Latvian-Armenian community, Alexander Geronyan, is also the author of two dozen books on the Armenian culture of Riga. In the “Ararat Newspaper Library” series, 14 books have been published in Armenian, Latvian and Russian. He is also the author of the books “Abroad as It Is”, “The Famous Collector”, “The Port Behind the Ark, or 15 Journeys to Ararat”, “Children of the Diaspora”, and “Foreigner”. Two of his books, dedicated to the Baku Armenians, were published abroad. His collection of stories “The Last Ferry” was published in Toronto, and “Armenikend and Its Residents” — in Moscow. At the event, Latvian songwriter and translator Alena Mitina, wife of Alexander Geronyan, also performed her works. She is a member of the International Association of Writers, the Union of Writers of the Russian Federation, and also co-director of the Riga creative association “Constellation”.
