On September 25, 2017, the National Library of Armenia opened a unique printing museum of its kind in the region. The history of printing is reflected in six halls of the Museum of Printing. The hall "the origins of writing" presents samples of written culture created in the period from the pre-written period to writing: rock carvings, cuneiform inscriptions. The museum is equipped with new technologies that create an interactive environment of non-formal education.
The «Armenian alphabet» hall presents the types of writing and the Armenian alphabet carved from wood in the books of European publishers. The first Armenian printed book «Urbatagirk» (Venice, 1512) is presented in the hall «The firstborn of Armenian printing». The Voskanyan Bible (Amsterdam, 1666-1668). The first printed map is the «all-pervading world» (Amsterdam, 1695). The first printed edition of «Azdarar» (Madras, 1794-1796). The hall «Diaspora of Armenian printing» presents the main centers where Armenian printing houses functioned and books were published in the Armenian language. In the hall you can get acquainted with a brief history of the printing house. Printing machines, cliches, and paintings of Armenian printing houses operating in different countries are displayed in the printing hall. With the help of a holographic display, the main forms of printing are presented. The «eternity of writing» hall presents the origin of the seal on the territory of modern Armenia. Unique samples of the press of Armenia and Artsakh are presented.
Since January 2018, the Printing Museum of the National Library of Armenia has become a member of the Association of European Printing Museums (AEPM).
