Return. memorial concert dedicated to the poet Varlen Aleksanyan and presentation of a new book

The National Library of Armenia hosted a memorial service for the poet, writer, publicist, translator, and editor Varlen Aleksanyan, during which his new collection “Return” was presented. In his opening speech, Advisor to the Director of the National Library Nerses Hayrapetyan emphasized that Varlen Aleksanyan is directly related to the National Library. In 2013-2014, he was the editor-in-chief of the newspaper “Spiritual Motherland”, published by the library. Chairman of the Writers' Union of Armenia Edward Militonyan spoke about Varlen Aleksanyan as a person and writer and shared his memories. During the event, participants and guests were mentally transported to the times when the unique poet Varlen Aleksanyan was alive. It seems that the poet himself has returned with his poems in the form of a new book called Return.

An invaluable role in the poet’s return was played by the editor of the collection, David Sargsyan, Varlen’s longtime correspondence acquaintance, colleague and simply close friend. People from the world of art and literature have been close to Varlen Aleksanyan for many years. Many were present in the hall - writer and publicist Vrezh Sarukhanyan, poet and translator Shant Mkrtchyan, and poet Hakob Harutyan spoke. Varlen Aleksanyan’s long creative path stretched from the State Museum of History of Armenia to the National Library. He was also a senior scientific editor at the Armenian Encyclopedia. The speech of the editor-in-chief of the encyclopedia, Hovhannes Ayvazyan, was read by the editor-in-chief of the literature department, Esther Khanikyan.

The poet’s works were read by actor Vahagn Simonyan and the host of the event, cultural figure and journalist Siranush Yeghiazaryan. Poet Norayr Grigoryan read his poem dedicated to the memory of Varlen Aleksanyan. During his life, Varlen Aleksanyan published 9 collections and edited many books, including Past Days by Charles Aznavour and The Book of Whispers by the Romanian-Armenian writer and statesman Varuzhan Voskanyan. “Literature is more serious than we imagine. Time is merciless, time does not forgive people who deceive,” this was Varlen Aleksanyan’s approach to literature, and this is how the poet treated his work.
