Museums are significant to our lives. A visit to the museum has cognitive, ideological, aesthetic, and educational significance. Every year on May 18th, as part of International Museum Day, museums worldwide gather around one theme. In 2024, International Museum Day and Museum Night will be held on the same day under the theme “Museums, Education and Research”. This year, 118 museums joined the program. They will be open to visitors free of charge throughout the day.

International Museum Day was organized for the first time by the International Council of Museums (ICOM) in 1977 to unite museums around global issues facing society and humanity and to raise public awareness of the important role of museums in public life. The Museum Night program has been held since 2005 by the initiative of the French Ministry of Culture and Communications under the auspices of ICOM, UNESCO, and the Council of Europe. Armenia joined the pan-European event “Night of Museums” in 2005.
