The International Day of the Greek Language was established in 2017 and was formally acknowledged by the UNESCO General Conference in November 2025. This event highlights the importance of the Greek language in the context of global cultural and educational legacy.

On February 9, a solemn event dedicated to the World Greek Language Day was held in the Great Hall of the National Library of Armenia, entitled “Greek Language and Music: A Living Tradition of Three and More Millennia.” It was organized at the initiative of the Embassy of Greece in Armenia and with the support of the National Library of Armenia. The event was welcomed by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Greece to Armenia, Christos Sofianopoulos, and the Director of the National Library of Armenia, Anna Chulyan, emphasizing the role of the Greek language in preserving world cultural heritage and deepening intercultural dialogue.

Lambros Liavas, Professor Emeritus of Folk Musicology at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, served as the event's keynote speaker. His lecture focused on the close connection between Greek music and language.
