We celebrate National Library Week with a French touch. Vadim Boehm, an expert on French culture at the National Library of Armenia and a student at the Archive University of Paris, gave a public lecture History of printing, publishing, and publishing houses: from Firmin Didot to Pierre-Jules Etzel (1800-1860). Vadim gave more than three dozen people a fascinating tour through the 19th-century publishing industry.
Previously, Vadim studied exclusive examples of book publishing from the collection of the National Library — private collections, rare publications — and at the lecture demonstrated how printing methods were improved, the stages of design of texts and books changed, printing and printing technologies developed. Tonight at 7 p.m., the library will conclude its two-month Francophonie program with a screening of Claude Chabrol's film Beau Serge. The program of French cinema screenings, organized jointly with the public organization Filmadaran, will continue throughout the year.
