The National Library of Armenia celebrated the 180th anniversary of the birth of the famous writer, satirist, and playwright Hakob Paronyan. According to poet and literary critic Grant Asatur, “Paronian knew the people of his time and their manners very well, accepted their quirky and hard-hitting sides with deep psychology and often imagined an entire scene of life with one stroke of his pen.”
Literary critic, Doctor of Philology, Professor Albert Makaryan studied in detail the life and work of the brilliant satirist and summarized his research in books. Albert Makaryan shared wonderful details about the great writer and presented his work. Writer, candidate of philological sciences Karo Vardanyan also gave a speech. The exhibition hall named after Tamanyan was overcrowded. Participants of the event got acquainted with the exhibition of books, periodicals and other materials representing Paronyan’s work.
Publications from the end of the 19th century, especially from the period of the great writer’s life, the beginning of the 20th century, the Soviet and post-Soviet periods, as well as the 21st century, and foreign publications were demonstrated. The exhibition will last two weeks. The hall was full of bright theater posters from different years: Honorary Beggars, Pakhtasar Akhbar, Shoghokort, Oriental Dentist, National Runners... “I have to imagine how Toros Agha feels because I jump on the road a thousand times while writing these lines,” writes Paronyan in the book Damage from Politics, describing the more than four hours of suffering of poor Toros Agha.
