Currently, the National Library of Armenia is screening another cinematic masterpiece - “Feminine Affair” by the leading representative of the French New Wave Claude Chabrol with a brilliant leading role by Isabelle Huppert. Introducing the film, Film Club coordinator Arthur Vardikyan emphasized that this is the third film by Claude Chabrol shown at the film club.
The tragic character played by Hupert sails through a dark ocean where the roles of victim and criminal are intertwined, in an atmosphere of survival, the desire for independence and the constant fear of being discovered. The film is based on the true story of Marie-Louise Giraud, who was beheaded by guillotine on July 30, 1943 for committing 27 illegal abortions in the Cherbourg region.
Hupert won the Volpe Cup at the Venice Film Festival for this film. Chabrol, Hupert and Marie Trintignant received Cesar awards for the film. This film became Chabrol's most significant creative success of the 1980s.
The Film Club of the National Library of Armenia has been operating for the third year in cooperation with the Film Culture Development NGO “Filmadaran”, the National Library, the Embassy of France in Armenia/French Institute and presents a selection of French films for film lovers. The films are shown in French with Armenian and English subtitles.
