On May 21, the National Library of Armenia hosted the next film club screening dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the birth of the famous French-Armenian chansonnier Charles Aznavour. Francois Truffaut's film Shoot the Pianist was shown on the screen. Charles Aznavour played the main character.

The film is based on the novel Down Under by David Goodis. We are talking about an Armenian family whose son Eduard Saroyan, played by Aznavour, ended his successful career as a pianist due to an unsuccessful love affair. And when it seems that he has found a new love and everything seems to be starting to get better, another blow of fate follows.

According to film director and film expert Garegin Zakoyan, it is interesting to see the famous singer Aznavour in the role of an actor, because he was the source of inspiration for Truffaut when creating this film. It should also be noted that in 2013, the film “Shoot the Pianist” was presented in the “Retrospective Screenings” program of the Golden Apricot International Film Festival.

The cinema club has been operating at the National Library of Armenia for the third year in row in collaboration with the public organization for the cinema culture development “Filmadaran”, the French Embassy in Armenia/French Institute. The films are shown in French with Armenian and English subtitles.
