Information security specialist Avetik Petrosyan gave a public presentation on "Information Security in the Library" at the National Library of Armenia. Users and staff from the National Library of Armenia, as well as the Yerevan Isahakyan City Central and Community Libraries, attended the presentation. The importance of information security in public library operations was explained to the audience during the talk. It was emphasized that libraries are trusted public spaces where users' personal data is stored, public computers and Wi-Fi access is provided, which makes them a potential target for cyberattacks. It was also noted that any information incident can negatively affect the library's reputation, public trust, and funding.
Avetik Petrosyan presented the main areas of data protection, which include:
• Patron data and reading histories
• Staff accounts (ILS, email, e‑resources)
• Licensed digital content and subscriptions
• Internal documents (HR, finance, programs)
• IT systems: catalog, website, Wi‑Fi, public PCs
The talk concluded with a discussion in which attendees were given the chance to ask questions, share their experiences and current difficulties in the field of information security, and explore real-world concerns associated with guaranteeing information security and their solutions.
The meeting was conducted as part of the NLA Media Center's media literacy training programs for readers and librarians.
