The new reading room was designed in accordance with the wishes of Armenian-American librarian Dziadzan (Gia) Aivazian https://surl.li/qwjqgs, with the goal of expanding the library’s reach and accessibility, creating a modern, pleasant, and responsive atmosphere for readers. The reading area is intended for readers who require accessible formats. Alfred Kocharyan, Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of the Republic of Armenia, members of the family of Dziadzan (Gia) Aivazian, employees of the National Library of Armenia, readers, partners, and guests attended the opening.

The National Library of Armenia's director, Anna Chulyan, greeted the visitors and gave the introductory remarks. She emphasized that the New Reading Room is an important effort to develop and modernize library services, as she discussed the work on creating the reading hall and the initiative's significance and value. She emphasized the work completed, pointing out that the new service point is an additional step toward developing a contemporary, user-friendly, and reader-focused library environment. Alfred Kocharyan, deputy minister of the ESCS, emphasized the importance of the work carried out in the National Library of Armenia, stressing that the library continues to move forward with joint work, recording new results and implementing important initiatives.

The participation of Dziadzan (Gia) Aivazian's family was special and touching. Her brother, Adam Aivazian, his wife, Ani Aivazian, their grandchildren, Nathan Grigor Aivazian, Sevanna Aivazian, and other family members were present at the opening ceremony. In her speech, Ani Aivazian thanked the National Library of Armenia for making Dziadzan Aivazian’s cherished dream and goal a reality. Sevanna Aivazian’s speech was also particularly symbolic for the family: she recited a poem dedicated to her daughter by Dziadzan Aivazian’s father, Levon Aivazian, uniting the family’s memory, love, and the fulfillment of a dream formed years ago on this important day.

The “Supportive Reading Room” is equipped with recordings, Braille and alternative format publications, as well as modern technological solutions and adapted equipment. On the opening day, readers were able to become familiar with the possibilities of the new reading room, test technical means, and use books presented in new formats. The creation of the new reading room is not only the opening of a new space, but also an important stage in the development of library services aimed at creating new opportunities for access to literature, information and knowledge.

The National Library of Armenia consistently continues the process of modernization and development of services, introducing new technologies, formats and solutions. The creation of the “Supportive Reading Room” is another evidence of the work aimed at making the library more accessible, affordable and comfortable for all its users.
