On November 15, at the initiative of the National Library of Armenia, a consultation seminar was held for library staff involved in compiling the largest electronic directory of Armenian libraries. The seminar was held in a hybrid format (in person and online).
The consultation was conducted by Anna Chulyan, Director of the National Library. Currently, the collective directory contains more than 1.5 million bibliographic records, of which about 1 million were entered by the employees of the National Library. The electronic directory has existed for more than two decades, and two dozen state, scientific, university and regional libraries of our country are involved in its compilation. Naturally, in such a volume of work, omissions and errors may occur. The purpose of this consultation seminar was to coordinate the work, unify bibliographic records, create mechanisms for quickly correcting errors, etc.
In January 2024, with the financial support of the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Armenia, a new server was launched, and the collective catalog was transferred to a faster domain. In 2024, the Shirak Regional Library began electronic services to readers. In 2025, electronic registration and reader service will also be implemented in the Armavir Regional Library. Shortly, it is planned to implement the library process management system in all 12 libraries of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports.
The consultation seminar was a success. From now on, such consultations will be held regularly. The fruit of the joint work of Armenian libraries: https://armunicat.nla.am/ is one of the most valuable and useful information resources created by Armenian libraries in the 21st century.
