As part of the National Library Week and the Francophonie program, another film screening was held in the large hall named after Tamanyan of the National Library of Armenia. This time, the film Beau Serge by Claude Chabrol was presented to the attention of movie lovers. The film was shot in the French village of Sardin where director Claude Chabrol spent his childhood during World War II.

“They say that Claude Chabrol was in love with cinema since childhood. Having moved from Paris to the village because of the war, twelve-year-old Chabrol created a film club, found films and cassettes for it, and organized performances for children,” cameraman Arthur Vardikyan said before the screening. Beau Serge released on big screens in 1958 brought the aspiring director enormous success. According to Quinogette, Chabrol is considered the founder and initiator of the New Wave, which gained recognition in France and beyond.

Summing up, Arthur Vardikyan noted that in all the films of the New Wave, “there is a noticeable balance between the past and the present, which is also not accidental”. Let us add that the cinema club of the National Library of Armenia has been operating for the third year with the cooperation of the public organization and development of cinema culture Filmadaran, the French Embassy in Armenia / the French Institute.
