Sep 07, 2023 News Book Map of Armenia
The burning summer sun and heat are not a problem for a reader. In addition, school holidays largely determined the June lists of fiction in the libraries of Stepanakert, the capital of Nagorny Karabakh. The newspaper National summarizes and presents the ten most popular fiction books in the republic's libraries since January 2023. The June list has a number of peculiarities. First of all, books by Armenian authors dominate the list, which is also related to summer vacations.
The list of school summer reading includes Captives of Barsov Gorge and Hunter Stories by Vakhtang Ananyan, short stories by Axel Bakunts, Derenik Demirchyan, Nar-Dos and Stepan Zoryan, Life On the old Roman Road by Vaan Totovents, Gevorg Marzpetuni by Muratsan, The Artist by Shirvanzade, Crusader’s Diary by Raffu. Novels Khent and Samvel are on the top positions almost in all regions. According to one of the lists among the most requested books, there are only two foreign writers — Jojo Moyes and Khaled Hosseini. Khaled Hosseini's A Thousand Splendid Suns and Agatha Christie's Murder on the Orient Express appear in local top lists.
One more important feature of the summer list — for the first time, top-tens include the data from the city library of Muratsan in the city of Stepanakert. The literary tastes and interests of library readers of Armenia and Nagorny Karabakh turned out to be similar. In recent months, the most sought-after foreign writer Agatha Christie seems to be giving up positions. But in the June top-ten, there are still eight detectives, of which only Murder on the Orient Express appears in the first place. Summer continues. It will be interesting to see what books will be on our library lists in July-August.
