From Bresson's brilliant perspective, the most well-known trial and one of the most heroic figures in European history. For the fourth consecutive year, the French Embassy/French Institute of Armenia and the non-governmental organization "Filmadaran" are carrying on the French film-focused Cine-Club at the National Library of Armenia. This year, a retrospective of Robert Bresson's films is shown to the audience by the film club. Following a string of successes in the Hundred Years' War in the 15th century, 19-year-old Joan of Arc is taken prisoner by the enemy and later sold to the English. She spends months on trial for witchcraft and is imprisoned in a cell in the castle of Rouen. Bresson's masterwork closely adheres to the actual procedures of the most well-known trial in history, from the beginning of the hearings to the last torture.
