The National Library of Armenia's Art Department has opened a literary exhibition honoring the 110th anniversary of the birth of Jean-Michel Thierry, a well-known French physician, art critic, and devoted scholar of Armenian studies. As part of the event, Head of Department Hasmik Arakelyan gave a report, presenting Thierry's exceptional contribution to the study, documentation, and international popularization of Armenian architecture.

Jean-Michel Thierry was one of the few individuals who, born in France, dedicated more than five decades of his life to the preservation of Armenian cultural heritage. Through the joint efforts of him and his wife, Nicole Thierry, hundreds of monuments were studied, measured and photographed, especially in Western Armenia, which were often on the verge of loss. Thierry combined architectural measurements, sketches, and excellent photography to create a methodical approach to monument documentation. Many churches "acquired their passports" in the scientific community as a result of his writings.

The exhibition presents Thierry's most important works, which remain fundamental sources for the study of Armenian art to this day. Jean-Michel Thierry not only studied Armenian architecture but also became one of its most dedicated advocates, protecting and presenting the rich heritage of Armenian culture to the world through his scientific work. His legacy continues to inspire new generations of researchers, reminding them that the preservation of cultural values is not only a scientific work but also a mission.
