As part of the National Library Week, on April 22, an exhibition of concert posters, booklets and invitations printed over the past 20 years opened in the small exhibition hall named after Alexander Tamanyan of the National Library of Armenia.
Library staff and guests got acquainted with the exhibited materials, after which an official ceremony of signing a memorandum of cooperation between the National Library of Armenia and the Armenian Philharmonic took place. Elena Khodikyan, head of the archive of the National Philharmonic Orchestra, presented the century-old history of the Armenian Philharmonic Orchestra.
The Philharmonic was founded in March 1925 by the director of the Yerevan Conservatory, Arshak Adamyan, with the direct participation and support of the composer Alexander Spendiaryan.
On the eve of the 100th anniversary of the National Philharmonic Orchestra of Armenia, the National Library plans to digitize its printed heritage and create a special database. In addition, the National Philharmonic Orchestra and the National Library are preparing for joint publication a chronicle of the last 20 years of the orchestra’s existence.
