In August, summer reading trends continued in libraries. Reading trends in public libraries are mainly driven by educational assignments. Students' interest in the works of contemporary and classical Armenian authors is encouraging. Two modern authors and one classical author make up the top three most sought-after list.

The interest in Ruben Yesayan's first book and the three following books is not decreasing. Ashot Aghababyan's book "The Cardinal" comes in second. The fact that the book "The Cardinal," which was released only three months ago, is available in libraries and has simultaneously been listed in the top ten of eight libraries is encouraging. Among Armenian classical writers, books by Aksel Bakunts, Vahan Totovents, Raffi, Derenik Demirchyan, Vakhtang Ananyan, Stepan Zoryan, and Gurgen Mahari, assigned by school curricula, are in high demand. Among foreign writers, the most sought-after books are those by Agatha Christie, Anna Jane, Elif Shafak, Khaled Hosseini, Haruki Murakami, Mark Levy, and Nicholas Sparks. In addition to fiction, readers are particularly interested in motivational books that help readers change their mindset, find inner strength, and make positive changes in their lives. Among the books on the August lists are "Atomic Habits" by James Clear, "Rich Dad, Poor Dad" by Robert Kiyosaki, "The 5 a.m. Club," and “The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari" by Robin Sharma.

The new academic year has begun, and the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of the Republic of Armenia has declared it the Year of Reading. Throughout the year, many activities are planned to promote reading among pupils. Each month during the academic year will be dedicated to a certain genre or direction of literature. The September theme will be the epic "Sasna Tsrer". Let's see how libraries will respond to this interesting initiative.
