On September 21, Armenia celebrates one of the most important state and national holidays — Independence Day of Armenia. On August 23, 1990, the Supreme Council of Armenia accepted the Declaration of Independence of Armenia, which stated that the ASSR was dissolved and a new state was formed — the Republic of Armenia.

On September 21, 1991, at the independence referendum, the Armenian people voted to leave the USSR. 2 million 43 thousand people voted for independence. Based on the results of the referendum, on September 23, 1991, the Supreme Council of the Republic proclaimed Armenia an independent state. Happy holiday, Armenia!.
