As part of the National Library Week, the National Library of Armenia organized another event dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Sergei Parajanov. Famous artist and ethnographer Levon Abrahamyan gave a speech at the library. The topic of his public speech was The Poetics of Parajanov’s Films. Levon Abrahamyan is the head of the ethnology department of the Institute of Archeology and Ethnography of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia, a corresponding member of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia, author of about 200 scientific publications, including Primitive Holiday and Mythology (1983), Conversations and Genealogies (2005), series Armenian Identity in a Changing World (2006).
The lecturer spoke about the features of Parajanov's films, his use of color (white, blue, red), rhythm, symbolism (grenades, sacrificed roosters, manuscripts drying on the walls and roof of the Haghpat monastery, shots in different episodes of the film), film ethnography and film language. Abrahamyan also took part in the filming of The Color of Pomegranates, playing a cameo role of a young Catholic priest. He also shared his memories of the filming process.
A book exhibition dedicated to the creative path of Parajanov opened at the art department of the library. Levon Abrahamyan's conversation continued with a large group of Yerevan State University master's students and other fans of Parajanov's work. National Library Week continues!
