The National Library of Armenia continues its series of meetings with publishers titled “Publishers Recommend: Book News from Newmag,” aimed at introducing readers and librarians to the latest trends in contemporary publishing, the best book recommendations, and current reading directions. The latest guest of the series was Newmag Publishing House. The publishing house’s latest releases, upcoming projects, and most in-demand titles were presented by Ani Hakobyan, Head of Literary Programs at Newmag. During the meeting, various book series and publishing directions of the company were introduced. Within the classical and contemporary American literature series, special attention was given to Joan Didion’s “The Year of Magical Thinking” and Jonathan Franzen’s novel “Crossroads,” both of which have generated significant interest among readers.
The European literature series was also discussed, through which Armenian readers are introduced to significant works by contemporary European authors, particularly the series by Elena Ferrante. Armenian translations of Francophone fiction were also presented. Special pride and attention were given to the series of publications dedicated to Charles Aznavour. The meeting also featured the non-fiction series, which includes books on self-development, business, psychology, and social issues, as well as memoirs and biographies of well-known figures from various fields. Publications on sports were also ներկայացված, telling the stories of world-renowned athletes, their achievements, and experiences. A separate mention was made of the “Yeraz” children’s series, designed for young readers and aimed at bringing children closer to books through engaging and illustrated stories.
Ani Hakobyan also presented works by Armenian authors, which in recent years have occupied an important place in the publishing house’s programs. The books by Syune Sevada, Susanna Harutyunyan, Davit Gevorgyan, Marianna Hakobyan, Hermine Avagyan, Narine Kroyan, and Narine Abgaryan were highlighted, all of which have generated significant interest among readers and are in high demand. The meeting provided participants with the opportunity to:
🔹 to get acquainted with the publishing house’s new books and authors
🔹 to learn about literature that meets contemporary readers’ demands
🔹 to ask questions directly to the publishing house’s representative and receive professional answers
🔹 to discuss opportunities for enriching library collections and fostering further collaboration
The series of meetings is intended for staff of the National, as well as community, city, and regional libraries, and for the broader reading public, aiming to strengthen the collaboration between libraries and publishers and to promote wider dissemination of new books.
