Satirist Hakob Paronyan, in his work "Azgayin Jocher" (National bigshots), with only 32 names, assigned Hovhannes Deroyents an honorable fourth, placing him among the most influential figures of Armenian national and intellectual life of the 19th century. This assessment best characterizes the authority and merit that Deroyents had acquired among his contemporaries as an intellectual, philologist, translator, educator, editor and theologian. On June 24, at the initiative of the Department of Bibliography and Library Science of the National Library of Armenia, a literature exhibition-report dedicated to the 225th anniversary of Hovhannes Der Karapetyan Deroyents took place in the reading room of the reference department.

During the event, the head of the department Anahit Nalbandyan presented the works of Deroents kept in the library's collections, the periodicals he edited, the translations, as well as the publications and studies related to his life and multifaceted activities.

Hovhannes Deroents was born in 1801 in Bursa. Having received a thorough education and mastered several languages, he played a significant role in the development of Armenian cultural, educational and church life. He headed the Scythian Seminary, was engaged in translation and publishing activities, edited one of the first Armenian periodicals in Constantinople, published the magazines "Zohal" and "Yerevak", as well as created valuable church-historical and theological works.
