The National Library received a special edition dedicated to Daniel Varuzhan published by Ghent University

French Immunologist scholar Frederic Fadey rightly wrote: “Varuzhan belongs to the West to the same extent as to Armenia.” Daniel Varuzhan 1905-1909 studied at the University of Ghent. In memory of the great poet, on February 9, 1958, a memorial plaque with a sculpture of Varuzhan’s face and inscriptions in Armenian, French, and Flemish was installed in the university library.

On the eve of the Christmas holidays, the National Library of Armenia received as a gift the 97th volume of the Belgian Review of Philology and History, published by Ghent University in 2019 - a special edition dedicated to Daniel Varoujan.

The publication, edited by Pieter Van Nufelen, a professor at the University of Ghent in Belgium and a specialist in the classical Armenian language, is called Daniel Varuzhan. Armenian poet in Ghent. One hundred years later. The voluminous volume opens with an article of the same name by Pieter Van Nufelen and Simon Payaslian and includes the articles Foreign Students at Ghent University in 1900 by Peter Messmaecker and Christophe Verbruggen, Daniel Varuzhan at the University of Ghent (1905-1909) by American Armenian scholar Simon Payaslian, I saw Europe — Daniel Varuzhan. Time of destruction of images, Daniel Varuzhan. Mourning and the Gods, etc.

The collection will soon join the Armenian collection of the Armenian National Museum. Let us add that 2024 marks the 140th anniversary of the birth of Daniel Varuzhan. The National Library of Armenia will celebrate the anniversary of the great poet with special events.
