Comedy “May Lily”

Oct 11, 2023 Events Cineclub

The comedy “May Fools” by one of the leading figures of the new French cinema, Louis Malle, was shown at the National Library of Armenia as part of the weekly film club organized jointly by the Armenian National Library, the French Embassy/French Institute, and the Film Academy. According to the co-organizer of the “Film Club,” cameraman and director Garegin Zakoyan, this film, classified as a comedy, is as serious as Shakespeare’s comedies, since many films that claim to be “serious” cannot be serious.

It is enough to mention that the authors of the script of this ironic and funny film, full of light sadness, are Louis Malle himself and the French screenwriter, playwright, writer, actor, and screenwriter of Luis Buñuel and Milos Forman’s films, Jean-Claude Carrière, familiar to Armenian readers from the book of conversations with Umberto Eco “This is Not the End of the Book.”

As always, Michel Piccoli shines in the leading role, and one of the actors is the French-Armenian actor François Berléand. Milou’s mother, great-grandmother, is played by Paulette Dubost, especially known for Jean Renoir’s “The Rules of the Game.”00
