In Armenia, community librarians' professional training is crucial to the development of a contemporary and efficient library system. Since community libraries serve as hubs for the exchange of information and knowledge as well as active venues for public, cultural, and educational activities, professionals in the sector must receive ongoing training. The National Library of Armenia regularly organizes professional training courses for librarians, conducting a needs assessment in advance, taking into account the priority topics and professional interests expressed by community librarians.
On June 8-9, a two-day professional training course was held at the National Library of Armenia, with the participation of librarians from community libraries of the Republic of Armenia. Librarians from the Yeghvard Central Library, Gavar, Vedi, and a number of community libraries in Hrazdan participated in the training. Several significant subjects about contemporary library activities were discussed with the attendees. Future-focused community library development trends, electronic cataloging and collection inventory procedures, personal data protection concerns in libraries, and the peculiarities of applying library laws and sub-legislative normative acts were all covered.
Opportunities to utilize the National Library of Armenia's databases and the unified catalog of Armenian libraries were given particular consideration. The courses were conducted by experienced specialists of the National Library of Armenia, who also organized discussions and practical work with the participants. At the end of the training, an evaluation of the results was carried out. Haykanush Ghazaryan, Deputy Director for Scientific Affairs of the National Library of Armenia, presented the participants with certificates of participation. At the conclusion of the course, the participants also had a tour of the National Library of Armenia's Printing Museum, learned about the evolution of printing culture, and were familiar with Armenian printing history.
