Scientometrics as the art of numerical analysis of science, is more relevant today than ever. Atom Mkhitaryan, Associate Professor of Pedagogy and Dean of the International Scientific-Educational Center (ISEC) of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia (NAS RA), gave a public lecture on this subject as part of the National Library Week program.
By evaluating publications, citations, scientific collaboration, and total scientific impact, scientometrics enables us to see research from a quantitative standpoint. The speaker addressed audience questions while highlighting the primary scientometrics indicators—Citation Count, Impact Factor, H-index, and I10-index—that are frequently used to evaluate scientific activity. It was emphasized that the science assessment system evolves over time. Digitalization is radically changing the scientific field, promoting the development of Open Science, the use of artificial intelligence and data analysis, the expansion of scientific databases, and the formation of collaborative science.
During the lecture, another educational manual from the “Educational Management” series, co-authored by Associate Professor of Pedagogy, Dean of the NAS GCMK Atom Mkhitaryan, and Doctor of Economics, Professor Armen Chughuryan, was also presented. It aims to become a practical guide for decision-makers, researchers, postgraduates and students in the field.
