On September 9 at 11:00 a.m., the opening ceremony of the new “Supportive Reading Room” will take place on the first floor of the administrative building of the “National Library of Armenia” SNCO. The “Supportive Reading Room” was established in accordance with the will of Armenian-American librarian Tsaghik (Jia) Ayvazian as a special project for readers with disabilities and accessibility needs at the National Library of Armenia. The establishment of the new reading room marks an important step toward making library services more inclusive and accessible. It will enable individuals with mobility and physical limitations, people who are blind or have low vision, as well as those with difficulties reading printed materials—including dyslexia, hyperlexia, alexia, and other reading-related conditions—to access the National Library of Armenia’s facilities and literary resources in accessible formats tailored to their needs. The reading room will be equipped with audiobooks, Braille and other alternative-format publications, as well as modern technological solutions. These resources will contribute to making library services more accessible, comfortable, and effective for readers with special needs.

The aim of the “Supportive Reading Room” is to create an environment where every reader, regardless of their physical abilities or reading needs, can freely access the library’s resources, educational opportunities, and cultural offerings. The opening ceremony will be attended by people with disabilities and accessibility needs, members of Tsaghik (Jia) Ayvazian’s family, representatives of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of the Republic of Armenia, as well as National Library of Armenia staff members, partners, and invited guests.

The opening of the “Supportive Reading Room” is of particular importance within the framework of the National Library of Armenia’s policy aimed at promoting inclusion, equal access, and the development of modern library services. The National Library of Armenia continues to develop an environment and services that make the library accessible to all groups of society.
