The Chinese translation of One Fine Day, the original book by Armenian-American author and illustrator Nonni Hohrogian, is among the books donated to the National Library by its Chinese friend and lecturer Ji Gochini. This colorful children’s book, written and illustrated by our compatriot Hohrogian, is a retelling of Hovhannes Tumanyan’s fairy tale The Fox with a Tail and has also been published in several other languages in translation.

Nonni Hohrogian received the prestigious American Caldecott Medal in 1972 for the illustrations of One Fine Day. Remarkably, he is a two-time recipient of this award, having first won it in 1966 for illustrating the book Always Room for One More.

Nonni Hohrogian (1932–2024) was a well-known and respected author in the United States, primarily recognized for her illustrated children's books. From an early age, she was captivated by folklore, fairy tales, poetry, fantasy, and short stories. Her husband, David Herdian, an English-language writer, poet, biographer, and children’s author, is also a celebrated figure who received the Newbery Honor literary award in 1979 for his book The Road from Home: The Story of an Armenian Girl.
