On March 31, 2023, the National Library of Armenia held a literary matinee dedicated to the 150th anniversary of Nikol Agbalyan, who was Minister of Education and Arts of the First Republic of Armenia, a famous public figure, speaker, writer, critic and teacher. The head librarian of the general reading hall Gohar Yenokyan spoke about the life and work of Nikol Agbalyan.

Literary critic, Doctor of Philology, Professor, Honored Scientist of the Republic of Armenia, and member of the Writers' Union of Armenia Samvel Muradyan took part in the event as an honorary guest. Professor Muradyan gave a detailed speech during which he presented the literary merits of Nikol Agbalyan. In particular, he spoke about Agbalyan’s role in the revival of the Vardaton (The Feast of Roses) tradition in the 1910s in Tiflis, the festival dedicated to Sayat Nova, and other activities of Agbalyan to popularize the songs of the most famous Armenian medieval lyricist, also works of Yeghishe Charents and other outstanding authors.

At the end of the event, guests got acquainted with numerous editions, collected works, books on life and work of the great Armenian, as well as articles from periodicals exhibited at the Tamanyan Grand Exhibition Hall of the National Library of Armenia. The exhibition presents 36 book publications, 27 magazines, 9 newspapers with which Nikol Agbalyan collaborated. The exhibition will be open until April 14, 2023.
