In the National Library of Armenia continues the annual EIFL conference. On October 1, the second day of the EIFL annual conference was held at the National Library of Armenia: it provided an important opportunity for representatives of the international library and academic community to share experiences and address fundamental topics of open science and access to knowledge. During the day, a number of key issues were discussed: copyright protection and secondary publication rights (SPR) — Teresa Hackett, head of EIFL’s Copyright & Libraries program, presented new tools for copyright protection and the example of Slovenia, where SPR was incorporated into national legislation.

Diamond open access publications – representatives from Nepal, Serbia, and Tanzania shared successful experiences, emphasizing the importance of ensuring quality and sustainability. The session featured speeches by Milica Ševkušić, Tatyana Timotijević, Sagar Raj Subedi, and Paul Samuel Munejan.

Persistent Identifiers (PIDs) – the use of DOI, ORCID and ROR identifiers was discussed, and their role in enhancing the accessibility and recognition of scientific outputs. Speakers included Irina Kuchman, Girma Aveke Denkayehun and Milica Ševkušić. In addition to the main presentations, participants had the opportunity to discuss newer tools on the OpenAlex platform, challenges of repositories, and the application of artificial intelligence in libraries. At the end of the day there was a meeting with publishers, which underlined the need to deepen international collaborations. The second day of the EIFL conference once again highlighted the importance of unity around the idea of free and equal access to knowledge.
