Recently, the staff of the National Library of Armenia visited the Sevan correctional facility at the invitation of the public organization "Center for Legal Initiatives". The purpose of the visit was to transfer literature to the library of the Sevan colony, as well as to meet with convicts, introduce them to the website of the National Library, resources, archives and, in general, the role and significance of the National Library in the life of the Armenian reader.
There are invisible libraries, the existence and activities of which the public is usually unaware of. Meanwhile, the libraries of medical institutions, sanatoriums, military, and other institutions have an important mission. Similar invisible libraries operate in penitentiary institutions. Books and reading play an irreplaceable role for convicts. Penitentiary libraries need not only fiction, but also educational and professional literature since many convicts receive distance education. Many of them master new professions right on the spot.
The library staff had the opportunity to take a tour of the correctional facility, see two libraries operating there, and talk to prisoners. It was nice to see the well-kept prison grounds, where the prisoners' football team trains.
