From June 15 to 17, Anna Chulyan, Director of the National Library of Armenia, participated in the Annual General Meeting of the Directors of the Conference of European National Librarians (CENL), held in Edinburgh, the capital of Scotland, United Kingdom.
The Executive Committee approved the theme “Artificial Intelligence and Cultural Heritage: AI’s Transformative Power through and for National Libraries” as the main focus of the 2025 conference. Within the framework of the conference, Anna Chulyan delivered a presentation entitled “The National Library of Armenia’s Collaboration with Private Organizations: Experience in Applying AI Technologies,” in which she shared the Library’s experience of working with the Armenian company Portmind AM on optical character recognition (OCR) of Armenian-script texts, as well as its collaboration with the French company Calfa on metadata recognition and quality enhancement of digitized materials.
The meetings raised and discussed a number of important issues, with presentations of studies and perspectives regarding the application of artificial intelligence in national libraries. New initiatives were introduced that aim to bring national libraries together and develop AI models applicable to the library field. Opportunities for collaboration were explored, and several agreements were reached
