On July 4, the National Library of Armenia received a donation of the French edition of Jerusalem Liberated by one of the most famous Italian poets, Torquato Tasso. In Tasso's epic poem, the author uses the example of chivalric romance to describe the battles of Christians against Muslims during the siege of Jerusalem at the end of the First Crusade.

The book was published in Paris in 1844 in a limited edition. Torquato Tasso's famous poem was translated into French by the writer, songwriter, and philologist Louis-Philippe de la Madeleine (or Philippe de la Madeleine, 1734-1818). The color illustrations for the book were made by 19th-century French artists Byron and Celestine Nantale. This interesting and rare publication was donated to the library by a researcher of ancient and French literature, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor Natalia Mikaeli Khachatryan. Thank you for the valuable gift.
