The National Library of Armenia is kicking off 2026 with a valuable and symbolic donation. The collection "Vahan Teryan and Poghos Makintsyan: Epistolary Heritage" is the first Armenological addition of the year. The book was donated to the library by its compiler, pianist Karine Avakyants, who is the granddaughter of writer and public figure Poghos Makintsyan.
The book was published in Moscow in 2025, as a result of nearly five years of consistent and meticulous work. It includes the correspondence between Vahan Teryan and Poghos Makintsyan from 1901-1918. The letters included in the book are part of Poghos Makintsyan’s legacy. They have been preserved in the family archive for a long time and have not been published until now.
The letters not only reveal the friendship and intellectual connection between Vahan Teryan and Poghos Makintsyan, but also provide valuable information about the Armenian literary, cultural, and social life of the early 20th century. They fill in the little-studied pages of the biographies of the two prominent intellectuals and are an important source for literary and historical studies.
