Today, the National Library of Armenia hosted a delegation from the Ilya Chavchavadze National Library of Georgia. Director of the National Library of Georgia Konstantin Gamsakhurdia, Head of the Library Resources Department Levan Taktakishvili, and Head of the Cataloging Department Beka Ghazhonia were among the delegation. The visit was marked by a number of important initiatives to expand Armenian-Georgian library and cultural cooperation.
The signing of a Memorandum of Understandig between the National Library of Armenia and the Ilya Chavchavadze National Library of Georgia was the main event. The parties' willingness to increase collaboration, plan reciprocal visits, share professional experiences, and carry out cooperative initiatives was codified in this document. The National Library of Armenia's General Reading Hall hosted the solemn opening of the Georgian Literature Corner, which aims to establish a new forum between the libraries and cultural institutions of the two nations.
During the meeting, the exhibition titled "Georgian Literary Heritage in the National Library of Armenia: 1783-2025" also opened. Important publications and literary translations in Georgian from the National Library of Armenia's collections were on display. The exhibition's objectives were to highlight the historical continuity and stability of Armenian-Georgian cultural ties and to present Georgian literature in its entirety in the National Library of Armenia's collections. The agreements made at this meeting are a significant step toward preserving and promoting cultural heritage as well as strengthening ties between Georgian and Armenian libraries.
